Dear all, I need help on the following issue. I try to make connection to Informix 11.7 database by using IBM SDK 3.4 (64-bit)for Windows. But I get an error window saying "Test connection was NOT successful.[Informix][Informix ODBC Driver][Informix]Read error occurred during connection attempt.". I did this on a Lenovo desktop with Windows 7 Pro and I constantly got this error. I also try this on a HP desktop with windows 7 Pro and it goes well. What could be a cause (the causes) of this error window? Please help.. I really appreciate any help you can provide. Kind regards, Vincent ******************************************************************************* To post a response via email (IIUG members only): 1. Address it to linux-informix@iiug.org 2. All, Need help on '-1108 Record not in form.'. If its issue every time with that form and 4gl then below solution/step can be verified: The screen record that is named in an INPUT ARRAY or DISPLAY ARRAY statement does not appear in the screen form that is now displayed. Review the program source in conjunction with the form specification to see if the screen record names match. But with my case, for same form and 4gl at one instance data displaying properly as expected but next instance its showing '-1108 Record not in form.' error and same form for next instance its showing properly. Meantime respective program went into error. But without correction its running back properly. Its strange but true. Any help will be appreciated. Commvault storage manager

We are a mixed database shop, both Informix 11.70 on RHEL 6.4, and various MSSQL versions. We have been using Netvault for our storage manager on Informix, and Commvault for MSSQL. Although we'd like to use Commvault exclusively, it wasn't until recently that they supported RHEL 6.4. In fact, according to Commvault, this support is "brand spanking new". That doesn't give me a great level of comfort, so I thought I'd ask to see if a) anyone uses Commvault for Informix in general and how your experiences have been, and b) if anyone uses Commvault for Informix on RHEL 6.4. It would be nice to have one storage manager for all our backup needs, so I'm hoping it will work out well. Thanks! ******************************************************************************* To post a response via email (IIUG members only): 1. Address it to linux-informix@iiug.org 2. IDS 11.7 Problem in Resident memory

I have a problem with my informix server. Setting the RESIDENT parameter in onconfig file to -1 caused that my memory capacity to be fully used. About 90% of memory seems to be locked as a resident by informix , now I am going to decrease the locked shared memory and use some more memory for OS related processes. the problem is that when i change RESIDENT parameter to 0 and restart the database server or even reboot the Whole Server, the memory won't be released. I initialized the database server with some new parameters but it didn't effect and now i have not enough memory for my OS. I couldn't find the answer by searching the internet. Informix Version: IDS 11.70.FC1 OS: RHEL 5.4 please help. Oracle Linux

Hi all, Oracle do a cheaper licensing solution than Redhat - especially with VM's I think. Therefore our organisation want to use Oracle Linux. Informix is NOT supported (certified) on Oracle Linux, but it is on Centos. I asked IBM and they said they would support (I think on best effort basis) but it wasn't clear as it was the Spanish office and perhaps something was lost in eng - es translation but I have in writing! Anyone know or know someone in the Linux section of IBM (Eric H, Benny V - probably it's changed). That can say if this is in the works / will ever happen or for sure we need to buy Licenses for Redhat or it's possible to get a cross compatibility statement from Oracle or IBM or ..? TIA, PP. ******************************************************************************* To post a response via email (IIUG members only): 1. Address it to linux-informix@iiug.org 2. Informix and systemd

$
0
0
Well, since I spent some hours getting this right, I thought I might share
this with everyone to, perhaps, save them some time.

My goal was to get the Informix IDS 11.70 installed on Linux...in this case
the Centos 7 RHEL. While I haven't tried it yet, this should also work on
Redhat RHEL.

The use of the rc files for initialization seem to be greatly limited, as the
direction is to now move towards the Service Control Manager, systemd. But,
the init script are not used with systemd; rather, you need to build a
"service" file that gives directives (NOT shell script commands) to start and
stop your service.

A few directories/files to be aware of:

/etc/systemd/system Directory for your service file.

/etc/sysconfig/ Directory for your service's Environment file.

/var/log/messages The log file for your service's start/stop message.

Of course, read the man pages and other info for the systemd process and the
systemctl command. You will need the following file, usually called
informix.service in the /etc/systemd/system directory.

============ CUT LINE - DO NOT INCLUDE IN FILE =====================

[Unit]
Description=Informix IDS Database Server

[Service]
Type=simple
EnvironmentFile=/etc/sysconfig/informix_service
ExecStart=/opt/IBM/informix/bin/oninit
ExecStop=/opt/IBM/informix/bin/onmode -ky

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

============ CUT LINE - DO NOT INCLUDE IN FILE =====================

The [Unit] section is an identifier.
The [Service] section is where your systemd directives go.
The [Install] section controls when your program is run...in this case,
"multi-user.target" refers to runlevel 3, just like the old rc3.d did.

Under [Service], the Type is "simple", the most common type...see those docs
for your other choices.
EnvironmentFile is the file where any Environmental Variables needed by your
service's program (ie, INFORMIXDIR) are defined...I have my file listed below.
ExecStart is the command that starts your service. For Informix that's the
program oninit.
ExecStop is the command that stops your service. For Informix that's onmode.

Two things about these items in the [Service] section. First, the filenames
and program names MUST be absolute pathnames. Even though I defined
Environment Variables in my EnvironmentFile, I couldn't get them to work in
the pathnames for the ExecStart or ExecStop programs.

Secondly, the two programs (ie, oninit and onmode) can have their command line
options behind the program name, as I did in the onmode command.

Since oninit won't run unless it can find some things in the Environment, I
wrote a small file I called informix_service (you can name it anything you
want) and placed it in the /etc/sysconfig/ directory. Here is my
informix_service EnvironmentFile:

============ CUT LINE - DO NOT INCLUDE IN FILE =====================

# informix.service environmental variables

INFORMIXDIR=/opt/IBM/informix
INFORMIXSERVER=ol_informix1170
ONCONFIG=onconfig.ol_informix1170
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS=/opt/IBM/informix/etc/sqlhosts.ol_informix1170

============ CUT LINE - DO NOT INCLUDE IN FILE =====================

Of course, substitute your directory names and file names as needed.

After this, run systemctl enable informix.service
then (to test it by hand) systemctl start informix.service

You can use onstat to see if it started, or run systemctl status
informix.service

To stop the service, run systemctl stop informix.service

If everything runs okay manually, be sure you've disabled your Informix
scripts in rc3.d and reboot. Hopefully, everything will work for you.

Well, I hope this helps someone and saves them some time. This is just my
attempt at paying back (or paying forward), all the help I've received from
others on this forum.

If anyone has an improved systemd configuration for Informix, please post it
in this thread so everyone can learn to use this.

Thanks,

Wayne

Hi guys,

Before you try this be aware that further testing shows I still have problems
with Informix when started as a service (with systemctl) that I don't seem to
have when started directly from oninit...even from the command line....so,
anyone is welcome to try it and give us updates on anything they find, but
don't try this on a production system just yet...

I'm still working on it.

Binding listeners to multiple interfaces

$

Hi again,

Well, for a guy who hadn't seen a listener problem for 15 years, I'm suddenly
dealing with several of them...I must have jinxed myself.

Has anyone ever had to bind the IDS listeners to multiple interfaces? Here's
my current problem:

I have a development system running windows 8.1 (yeah, that's the first
problem...but...), on top of that I'm running Virtual Box (VBox) with the
Win8.1 as the host. I am currently running 3 "guest" VM's: a Win2000 server,
running IDS 10; a Centos Linux system running IDS 11.70; and, a WinXP system
running the Inf. CSKD. We use ODBC as our common data source. Now, as it
stands, My WinXP acts as my "client" system, and can connect to either the
Win2K server or the Centos server. And, believe it or not, that all
works...over a "virtual network" within the VBox environment.

In VBox, to connect to the host (my Win8.1 system), I needed to install a
second virtual interface card on each of my 3 guest VM's...which I did, and
they work fine. I can ping from the host to each of the 3 guests, and do basic
communications stuff from the host to each of the guests.

BUT (and you knew there was one coming), when I try to use the ODBC Admin
module to set up a path to the IDS on either the Win2K or the Centos system, I
get a "connection to server "ol_xxxx" failed" message. After fooling with this
for a while, I realize (or think I do), that I am actually getting to the two
server systems just fine, but I can't get a DSN path to the Informix DB
servers. Best I can tell, my Informix listeners are listening on just one
interface...the first one I installed. The IDS listeners are not binding to
the interface to the Host system.

So, after doing some research, I've seen similar problems from other ODBMS
products and there was always some specific way of forcing the Listeners to
bind to a specific interface. Didn't find that for Informix. I've set up 2
aliases (in the onconfig file) for my server (using the Centos system...I'll
worry about the Win2K system later), called ol_centos1 and ol_centos2. I tried
different combinations in the sqlhosts file, but can't seem to get it to
happen. If I've missed a post on here or an IBM doc that explains this, any
help finding that link would be greatly appreciated...or am I the only one who
gets himself into these situations?

Thanks in advance, everyone.

Wayne

IDS 10.0 ADT files with ACTB but no row reads

I have an old Informix 10.00.FCx on HPUX 11. I have auditing turned on for
debugging an application. I put EVERY mnemonic into the audit mask. Auditing
is generating a lot of material, but I found that in some unusual cases, I see
an ACTB with no row access after it.. ie, no RDRW, DLRW, INRW, UPRW... in fact
sometimes, multiple ACTB on different tables one after another. What activity
can generate Access-table, without generating read-row or other row activity?

TIA

found the answer, a lock-table without a Read-row will create the access-table
(ACTB) with no other records.
